No. 2 Men's Lightweight Rowing Races For Wood-Hammond and Fosburgh Cups Saturday
April 19, 2024 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
PRINCETON – The No. 2 Princeton Men's Lightweight Rowing welcomes the Penn Quakers and No. 6 Georgetown Hoyas to Lake Carnegie for the Wood-Hammond and Fosburgh Cups Saturday.
Princeton is coming off a decision over No. 3 Cornell, capturing the Platt Cup for the first time since 2018 last week. The 1V ended Cornell's three-race winning streak with a 1.2-second victory, crossing the line at 5:40.27.
"We had a good race last weekend and are happy to have beaten a strong crew from Cornell," said Tim Eilers. "They pushed us especially in the middle of the race which is something that we addressed in practice this week. We're ready to execute even better against Penn and Georgetown."
Princeton regained the Wood-Hammond Cup last year after Penn took it in 2022. The Tigers have lost the cup twice since 1978. Head coach Marty Crotty's crew has won six straight Fosburgh Cups over the Hoyas.
Last season, The Tigers' 1V crossed the finish line at 6:25.6, more than three seconds in front of Georgetown (6:28.8) and seven seconds ahead of Penn (6:32.8). Princeton swept the races with the 2V earning a five-second decision (6:23.0), the Varsity Four picking up a 15.8-second win (7:56.4) and the third varsity corralling a 3.2-second win (6:36.0).
Here's the full schedule:
10:00 AM - Third Varsity
10:20 AM - Second Varsity
10:40 AM - First Varsity - Wood-Hammond Cup/Fosburgh Cup
10:55 AM: Princeton Heavyweight 5V vs. Penn Lightweight 4V
