No. 33 Men's Tennis Set For NCAA Tournament First Round Match Against No. 41 VCU

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 33 Princeton University men's tennis team will face No. 44 VCU in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on May 3 at 1 p.m. ET at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar's Head Resort in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The NCAA Tournament appearance is Princeton's second in the past three seasons and tenth in program history. The Tigers last NCAA Tournament appearance was in 2022, when the 39th-ranked Tigers took on 16th-ranked Arizona in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The 16 teams advancing from the second round will participate in two-team super regionals hosted by the higher-seeded teams, set to take place on May 10-11. The eight super regional winners will advance to Oklahoma State's Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with the quarterfinals through championship matches being played May 16-19. The NCAA Singles and Doubles will run May 20-25.
Princeton's first round opponent, VCU, will be making its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament appearance after winning its seventh-consecutive A-10 title. The Rams ended regular season play with a 15-9 record and a 2-0 record in conference play and have to players featured in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, No. 58 Mathis Bondaz and No. 114 Matisse Bobichon, along with one doubles team, No. 41 German Samofalov and Oscar Pinto Sansano. The Tigers and VCU most recently met on Mar. 19, 2023, at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center at the San Diego Invitational. Prior to the match being called off due to weather, Princeton was up, 3-2.
Virginia has won six NCAA titles, including the last two, and will be appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 20th-straight season. UVA is 22-5, went a perfect 12-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play and has four ranked singles players (No. 4 Chris Rodesch, No. 36 Inaki Montes De La Torre, No. 51 Dylan Dietrich, No. 59 Jeffrey Von Der Schulenburg) along with two ranked doubles teams (No. 10 Inaki Montes De La Torre & James Hopper, No. 66 Chris Rodesch & Jeffrey Von Der Schulenburg).
NJIT, the Southland Conference Champions, have a 19-5 record. The Highlanders have been ranked as high as No. 57 in the ITA team rankings.
