Baseball Finishes Regular Season At Columbia

PRINCETON – The Princeton Baseball Team makes the trip to New York City to take on the Columbia Lions this weekend.
Princeton and Columbia will take part in a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Tigers are 16-22 this season and has won five of their last six games. Princeton has victories over UNC Wilmington, Navy, Old Dominion, VCU, Cornell, Yale, Brown, Harvard, Penn, Wagner, and Dartmouth.
Princeton is second in the Ivy League at 11-7, trailing only Columbia (15-3). Cornell is 10-8 followed by Penn (9-9) and Yale (9-9). Head coach Scott Bradley's group needs to win just one game to clinch a berth in the Ivy League Tournament or have Penn lose a game or Cornell lose twice.
Last week, Jake Koonin hit .538 and produced a .667 on-base percentage, adding four extra base hits, six RBI, five runs and three stolen bases. Matt Scannell corralled 16 total bases during that stretch, hitting .455. He contributed nine hits in the doubleheader vs. Dartmouth which is tied for the most hits in consecutive games in program history.
Koonin leads the team in hitting (.316), RBI (37), total bases (71), slugging percentage (.529) and stolen bases (10). Nick DiPietrantonio has hits in eight straight games and 20 of his last 21 contests which has raised his batting average from .196 to .297. Kyle Vinci leads the squad in home runs in seven. His home run on Saturday broke the program career record (27) set by Matthew Evans '99. Jake Bold paces the squad in walks (30) and on-base percentage (.426). The Tigers have five hitters hitting at least .275 (Koonin, DiPietrantonio, Bold (.296), Jake Kernodle (.287) and Caden Shapiro (.277)).
Jacob Faulkner has been an everything man for Princeton out of the bullpen, securing a 3.22 ERA in 18 appearances. He's 6-1, adding four saves with 42 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings. Will Sword has thrown at least six innings in each of his last three starts while Elliot Eaton struck out six in six frames at Dartmouth.
Columbia has won nine consecutive contests and sits 24-14 overall. The Lions won the Ivy League regular season title and are 15-3 in the conference. Columbia has seven qualified hitters with Griffin Palfrey leading the way at .375. The Lions have also blasted 81 home runs with Jack Cooper pacing the unit with 14 big flies. The first-place team has posted a 7.34 ERA this season.
