With two transfer spots to rhe Olympic Final on the line, the United States made sure it was safely through to the Olympic Final in the Women's Four with a first place finish in the repechage, and a pair of Princeton alumni will now race for an Olympic medal on August 1 at 5:50 a.m. EST.
Kelsey Reelick '14 and Emilty Kallfelz '19 are teammates on Team USA and seated next to each other in a boat coached by Tiger head coach Lori Dauphiny, giving the United States a bit of Orange & Black to go with the red, white and blue en route to the Olympic Final.
The Americans were third after the opening 500, but moved into second place over the middle portion of the race to put themselves in position to move through to the final. Over the final 500, Team USA left no doubt as they overtook China -- a boat which beat the United States in the heats -- to cross the finish line first in a time of 6:32.48. That final 500m sprint was impressive from Team USA as they turned a deficit of 0.8 seconds into a winning margin of 1.12 seconds ahead of the Chinese crew.
