ST. CATHARINES, Ontario – Along with earning a first-place finish in the preliminary of the 8+, Keelan Good '24 and Kian Aminian '27 of the Princeton University heavyweight rowing team helped the USA come within .2 seconds of a world record Sunday afternoon at the U-23 World Rowing Championships. Ed Nutt '27 also rowed for Australia, who finished third.
"What an incredible start to racing for the Tigers up at Worlds," said Head Coach Greg Hughes. "It was thrilling to watch Keelan, Kian and the US 8+ come away with the win and come within 2/10ths of the world best time in the process. Ed and the AUS 8+ were right there with them right down the track. Things are shaping up for a very exciting final this coming Friday."
USA, which featured Good and Aminian, finished in 5:22.65, just .2 seconds off a world best time to finish first. Australia, which featured Nutt, took third with a time of 5:27.67.
"It is always exciting to see Princeton rowers race on the international stage," said Associate Head Coach Matt Smith. "All of our Olympians this year raced at the U-23 World Championships when they were younger and hopefully we see some of these athletes at the Olympics one day, too. For now, it will be exciting to watch these three race for the medals later in the week."
The Princeton trio will compete in the final at 5:08 p.m. ET on Aug. 23.
