August 24, 2024 | Women's Soccer
For openers, Mission ACComplished.
Sophomore Isabella Garces' first career goal, coming with 26-plus minutes to go in the game, helped deliver the Princeton women's soccer team to 1-0 win over Miami (Fla.) in the Tigers' season-opening match on Saturday night on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
Senior Tyler McCamey made five saves to get the win, the 20th of her career.
On the way to the game-winning goal, Pia Beaulieu left a ball along the wing for Kayla Wong, who centered it and found a cutting Garces for a one-touch slip past Claireese Foley and inside the left post.
The game was Princeton's first at Roberts Stadium since the first round of the NCAA tournament last fall, when it defeated Michigan of the Big Ten 1-0 to advance in the postseason. The win over the Atlantic Coast Conference program is Princeton's first since another postseason win, over North Carolina in the 2017 NCAA tournament. It was Princeton's first game against an ACC team since a 2019 home loss to Boston College.
Princeton outshot the Hurricanes 6-5 on goal with Miami outshooting Princeton 12-10 overall.
The Tigers will return to Roberts Stadium on Thursday, hosting Seton Hall.
