Sondre Guttormsen Advances to Olympic Pole Vault Final

Finishing as one of 10 vaulters to reach the top qualification height of 5.75 meters, and one of five to reach that height while clearing the bar on his first try each time it was raised, Sondre Guttormsen '23 of Norway earned his place in the Monday's Olympic pole vault final.Â
Guttormsen, a three-time NCAA pole vault champion, including once outdoors, cleared 5.40, 5.60, 5.70 and 5.75 meters on the first attempt at each height. The final is set for a 1 p.m. ET start on Monday at the Stade de France in Paris. Twelve vaulters in all moved on to Monday.
It is Guttormsen's second trip to the Games, with an injury felling him during qualification at the Tokyo Games.Â
Guttormsen's brother Simen topped out at 5.60 meters during qualification, taking three tries at 5.70 before tying for 12th in his qualification group and 16th of 31 overall.
