Women's Soccer Team Starts Weekend Homestand with Win over Drexel
September 12, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Drew Coomans scored in the 50th minute and Summer Pierson had her first career goal in the 74th as the Princeton women's soccer team overcame an early Drexel goal to win 2-1 on Thursday night at Roberts Stadium.
The win begins a two-match weekend homestand for the Tigers, who will host Georgetown on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Drexel got on the board just more than six minutes into the game when Casey Touey took a ball toward goal and drew Tyler McCamey toward her to try and snuff out the bid, instead making a move to retain possession and arc a shot over a pair of Princeton defenders and in.
After the Dragons edged Princeton 5-4 in total shots in the first half, Princeton outshot Drexel 11-4 overall in the second. The Tigers countered Drexel's early first-half goal with an early second-half equalizer, with Heather MacNab putting a free kick toward the six-yard box and Coomans taking control of the ball after a couple bounces, sending it home to tie the game at 1-1 less than seven minutes into the period.
It was another MacNab free kick that helped give Princeton the lead, as with 16-plus minutes to play, MacNab lifted a ball toward the far post for Pierson to head it in and put Princeton on top in a game that saw Pierson make her first career start.
Princeton outshot Drexel 15-9 overall on the night and 7-5 on goal, with McCamey stopping four shots.
