Tigers Take Third Place at Spiked Shoe Invitational
September 13, 2024 | Women's Cross Country
UNIVERSITY PARK, PENN. – With senior Mena Scatchard leading the Tigers, the Princeton women's cross country team took third place at the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday, September 13 in University Park, Penn. The 6k race was hosted by Penn State and featured a competitive field of 17 teams, including two other Ivy League rivals.
"We purposely pursued the Spiked Shoe Invitational to experience the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Regional course scheduled for mid November. We had a strong showing against top competition from top tier teams in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Region. I was so pleased to see our young and talented core nucleus race together, as Mena Scatchard paved the way from the front. Meg Madison moved up 21 spots over the second half of the race to grab a top 10 individual finish. We are celebrating the progress as a squad from last week and we look forward to a great training block leading into the Paul Short Invitational on October 5." - Head Coach Brad Hunt
Scatchard finished with a new personal-best time of 20:25.2 for five points, helping the Tigers to an overall team score of 78.
Freshman Meg Madison passed seven other runners in each of her three splits to finish eighth (20:40.6) and sophomore Anna McNatt was able to surpass five runners over the course of the race to finish in 13th place (20:46.4).
Sophomore Olivia Martin (21:02.4) and senior Lexi Allen (21:07.7) rounded out the Tiger scorers, taking 22nd and 30th place in the field of 221 runners.
