Women's Volleyball Drops Road Contest At #3 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sophomore Kamryn Chaney continued to take her game new levels Saturday morning inside Rec Hall, as she recorded a match-high 12 kills against Big Ten opponent No. 3 Penn State in the Tigers' final match at the Penn State Invitational.
The Tigers fell to the third-ranked Nittany Lions, 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 20), in what was three hard-fought sets against one of the nation's top programs.
Chaney also recorded six digs, a match-high three service aces and two blocks. Sophomore Sydney Draper led Princeton in assists with 26 while sophomore Sydney Bold tallied a match-high 14 digs.
An early 7-0 run by Penn State put the Nittany Lions in control early, as they took a 10-2 advantage. A kill by senior Shelby Fulton led a 3-0 run that made it 14-9 as the Tigers attempted to battle back, but the Nittany Lions swung the momentum back their way and took the first set, 25-15.
Princeton rebounded in the second set and got off to a strong start, with a freshman Jackie Onyechi kill followed by a bad set by Penn State putting Princeton up 6-4. The Nittany Lions would soon take a 10-7 lead, but a pair of Penn State errors and a kill by Chaney tied it up at 10-10. The two teams would battle back and forth, as a kill by Chaney then a Draper service ace made it a 15-15 set. The Nittany Lions got hot to end the set, closing it out on an 8-0 run and earning a 25-16 second set victory.
A 5-0 run by Penn State early in the third put Penn State in front, 6-1. Princeton chipped away, with a Chaney kill then a double block by Fulton and senior Mariah Haislip making it a two-point set at 8-6. Another 5-0 Nittany Lion run gave Penn State and 18-10 advantage, but a pair of 3-0 Tiger runs saw Princeton make it a 24-21 set. While the Tigers saved three match points, it was Penn State who triumphed, 25-21 in the set, and 3-0 in the match.
