
Women's Volleyball Splits On Final Day At Villanova Tournament

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team split the final day of the Villanova Tournament, first taking down Loyola Maryland, 3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 27-25, 19-25, 15-12), then falling to the host Wildcats, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-20). The Tigers end the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Through the two matches, sophomore Erin McNair led the Tigers in kills with 23, with her 15 against Loyola being a career-high. McNair also added 11 digs. Senior Shelby Fulton added 21 kills while sophomore Sydney Draper had a team-high 45 assists and 17 digs. In Princeton's victory over the Greyhounds, Draper tallied her 12th career double-double with a match-high 25 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Kamryn Chaney recorded her first career double-double against Loyola with 13 kills and a career-high 10 digs, totaling 19 and 13 on the day. Sophomore Sydney Bold's 29 digs led the Tigers, as did sophomore Ava Harrington's 11 blocks.
Princeton vs. Loyola Maryland
A Greyhound attacking error in the first set led an early 5-0 run that saw the Tigers jump out to a 6-3 lead. Loyola battled back, eventually gaining a 14-12 advantage but a kill by senior Mariah Haislip ignited a 5-0 run that put Princeton in front, 17-14. From there, the Tigers held on to win the first set, 25-20.
A kill by McNair followed by a pair of Harrington service aces gave Princeton a 7-6 lead in the second set, but Loyola bounced back to take a 14-10 advantage. Princeton was unable to regain control of the set as the Greyhounds leveled the match up at 1-1 with a 25-17 second set victory.
While Loyola jumped out to a 7-5 lead in the third set, a Greyhound service error led a 4-0 Princeton run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 9-7. Loyola would soon retake the lead at 12-11, but a Loyola service error sparked an 8-0 Princeton run that gave the Tigers a seven-point advantage at 19-12, following a Bold service ace. Loyola chipped away at Princeton's lead and tied it up at 22-22 before taking set point at 25-24, but three-consecutive Chaney kills sealed the set for the Tigers, 27-25.
Princeton got off to a strong start in the fourth, with a kill by freshman Ashtyn Sims sparking a 4-0 run that gave the Tigers a 7-4 lead. Another Sims kill saw Princeton go up 15-11, but a 5-0 run by the Greyhounds saw Loyola go up, 16-15. The Tigers would retake the lead, 17-16, thanks to a pair of Sims kills, but it was Loyola who closed the set out strong, prevailing 25-19 and sending it five.
The Greyhounds raced out to a 9-6 advantage in the fifth set, but a kill by McNair ignited a 7-0 run that put Princeton in front, 13-9. A Haislip kill gave the Tigers match point at 14-9, before a double block by Harrington and Sims sealed the victory, 15-12 in the fifth set and 3-2 in the match.
