Morgan, Nye Score As No. 5 Princeton Holds Off No. 19 Brown 2-1
October 24, 2025 | Field Hockey
The easy last few minutes that seemed to be in the cards for the Princeton field hockey team never materialized. The win did, though, even if it required some white knuckles before it ended.
Izzy Morgan and Molly Nye scored goals and the Tiger defense held off a furious Brown rally for a 2-1 win for No. 5 Princeton. The Bears, ranked 19th, scored a goal with 5:40 to play and then played all but the final few seconds with Princeton two players down with yellow cards but could not get the tying goal.
Princeton is now 11-3 on the season and the winner of seven straight heading into its home game Sunday at noon against Penn State. Princeton also completed the away portion of its regular season at a perfect 6-0. Harvard held off Columbia 2-0 to clinch the home field for the upcoming Ivy League tournament.
For most of the day, it didn't seem like the end would be so dramatic. Princeton outshot Brown 28-3 for the day and cashed in with a Morgan goal off a rebound in the third quarter and a Nye goal from Pru Lindsey with 7:21 left. Game over, right? Wrong.
Brown answered off its first penalty corner two minutes later and then drew another but couldn't get the equalizer, despite the two-player advantage. The Tiger defense — Ottilie Sykes, Clem Houlden, Gabriella Anderson and Tabby Vaughan — did a great job of keeping the ball out of the circle and pushing it to the other side of the field, where midfielders Caitlin Thompson and Beth Yeager took most of the remaining time off.
Morgan's goal was her second of the season, while Nye now has five, all in the last six games.
