No. 5 Princeton Explodes Past Penn State 6-1
October 26, 2025 | Field Hockey
A two-goal lead in the second half in field hockey can become dicey in a flash, as Princeton saw Friday against Brown in Providence. A five-goal lead? That's a different story.
No. 5 Princeton scored three times in a 2:52 stretch of the third quarter to blow open its game against Penn State Sunday afternoon en route a 6-1 win, the seventh straight for the Tigers. Princeton's six goals came from six different players and included four on penalty corners in the third quarter alone.
The game Friday saw Princeton lead 2-0 in the second at Brown before a late Bear goal and some deep breaths turned that into a 2-1 Tiger win. Against Penn State, it was a 1-0 game at the half on a Caitlin Thompson goal and then 2-0 when Beth Yeager scored off a penalty corner midway through the third quarter. Would this be a repeat of Friday?
Nope. Instead, Princeton exploded, scoring on three more penalty corner chances in less than three minutes, making it a four-goal quarter and a 5-0 lead, one that grew to 6-0 on Izzy Morgan's blast early in the fourth.
The six goals by Princeton were the most for the team since a 6-0 win over Monmouth in 2022. Between the Brown and Penn State games, Princeton outshot its two weekend opponents by a combined 49-10.
Princeton, with an RPI of No. 2 in Division I heading into the game, will end its regular season with a home game against Columbia this coming Saturday, followed by a trip to Harvard the following weekend for the Ivy League tournament.

The last penalty corner goals of the third came in rapid succession, first with the first career goal for Tabby Vaughan, from Yeager, and then followed by scores from Clem Houlden and Ottilie Sykes. Pru Lindsey and Anna Faulstich both finished with three assists, marking the third time in program history that Princeton has had two players with at least three assists in a game. How about four penalty corner goals in one post? pic.twitter.com/iUcAe7bqp4
