Women's Volleyball Completes Season Sweep Of Penn

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team completed the season sweep of the University of Pennsylvania inside Dillon Gymnasium Friday night after earning a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-17) triumph over the Quakers.
Erin McNair led the Tigers with a match-high 14 kills on a .357 hitting percentage along with a match-high two service aces and four digs. Shelby Burriss finished with 10 kills on a .667 hitting percentage and a match-high four blocks while Sydney Draper accumulated her eighth double-double of the season with a match-high 32 assists and 11 digs. Sydney Bold's 19 digs were also a match-high.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle, with Princeton and Penn playing to a stalemate at 15-15. The Quakers edged ahead 21-19, but a kill by Scalamandre led a 6-0 run on which the Tigers would close the set out on. Princeton's defense stood tall at the of the set, with a Valerie Nutakor block putting Princeton up 24-21 then a Scalamandre block giving the Tigers the 25-21 second set victory.
While Penn took a 7-5 lead early in the third set, a Burris kill ignited a 9-0 run that swung the momentum in the Tigers' favor, putting Princeton ahead 14-7. The Tigers would eventually take match point at 24-16 after a Nutakor service ace then an attacking error by the Quakers gave Princeton the 25-17 win in the third set along with the 3-0 victory in the match.

A Lucia Scalamandre kill followed by a McNair service ace extended the Tigers' lead to double figures at 19-9, but the Quakers showed resilience and went on a 4-0 run to make it 21-16. McNair closed the set out in dominant fashion, producing a kill to give Princeton set point at 24-17 then another to make it a 25-20 opening set in the Tigers' favor."I really think it was our pass, it all starts with our pass and Draper getting us those one-on-ones."
