No. 8 Princeton Holds Off No. 16 Yale 2-1
October 03, 2025 | Field Hockey
A game that was in hand suddenly wasn't. In fact there was a frantic last two minutes, resulting in a huge exhale at the end.
A win is a win, comfortably or otherwise.
The eighth-ranked Princeton field hockey team held off a furious late charge from No. 16 Yale and held on for a big 2-1 Ivy League win Friday evening in New Haven. The win improved the Tigers to 6-3 overall, 2-1 in the Ivy League and 3-0 on the road.
Yale scored off a penalty corner with 1:59 to go, and just like that it wasn't going to be a smooth ride to the finish. As it turned out, far from it. Yale pushed forward from that point on, and the game ended with an open Tiger net and a Yale shot that Princeton goalie Olivia Caponiti may or may not have barely gotten her stick on. Regardless, the ball just made its way over the cage, and the Tigers had held on.
Princeton is off until a road trip next weekend, with a game at Dartmouth followed by a game at No. 1 Northwestern.

Molly Nye and Pru Lindsey each scored her first goal of the season, Nye in the second quarter and Lindsey in the third, and it was a 2-0 Tiger lead through 58 minutes. That's when it got dicey.Molly makes it 1-0.
