Despite Hicke's Game & Career-High 22 Points, Men's Basketball Falls to Temple, 79-75

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Despite a game and career high 22 points from junior Jackson Hicke, the Princeton University men's basketball team fell just short to Temple Tuesday night inside State Farm Field House in its second game at the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational, 79-75.
Hicke's 22 points came on 8-for-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Sophomore Jack Stanton also recorded career-highs, as he finished with a career-best 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and 5-for-11 from three in addition to handing out a career and team-high five assists. Sophomore CJ Happy was the third Tiger to score in double figures with 11 points while sophomore Malik Abdullahi's seven rebounds were also a team high.
A pair of early three-pointers by Happy along with a freshman Sebastian Whitfield layup gave Princeton an 8-3 advantage with 15:56 on the clock. With 13:58 remaining in the half, a layup by Hicke ignited an 11-0 run that put the Tigers ahead by double figures, 19-9, at 10:27.
The Owls battled back, eventually reducing the deficit down to one, 33-32, with 00:43 left in the half. Abdullahi connected on his first career three-pointer with 00:18 on the clock to send Princeton into halftime with a 36-32 advantage.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle. A junior Jacob Huggins layup kept Princeton in front by six, 41-35, with 17:31 left to play, but the Owls used an 8-0 run to take the lead with 13:10 remaining, 45-43. A four-point by Stanton made it a one-point game, 53-52, with 10:55 on the clock but Temple wasn't done as it extended its lead to nine, 66-57, at 7:10.
There was no quit in the Tigers, as Stanton banked in a three-pointer at 00:31 that made it a 74-70 contest. Despite the late rally, the Owls were able to hold on for the 79-75 triumph.
