No. 11 Women's Hockey Knocks Off No. 8 Cornell, 3-2
December 06, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
The Tigers are heading into exams in first place!
A weekend sweep through Colgate and Cornell concluded with a 3-2 win over No. 8/8 Cornell at Lynah Rink to cap the Tigers' first sweep on the road against the Raiders and Big Red since the 2015-16 season.
The victory over the Big Red is Princeton's fifth in its last 18 games against Cornell, and all five have come in Ithaca.
A three-goal second period from the Tigers was the difference as Princeton erased a first-period deficit and provided enough insurance to stave off a late Cornell rally.
Issy Wunder had two goals, scoring twice in a span of 0:22. Emerson O'Leary and Teja Gatfield each had two assists in the game.
Una Corniea finished with 29 saves, including 12 in the second period while her team flipped the script and took the lead.
The Big Red struck first with 6:56 to play in the first period when Lindsi Avar had a shot from the near left circle handcuff Corniea a bit and find its way through.
Princeton answered with an Issy Wunder goal with 8:38 left in the second period. After a clean win from Emerson O'Leary on a faceoff in the Big Red end, Teja Gatfield sent a shot from the point that Wunder deflected in to tie the game. Cornell challenged the goal for potential goaltender interference, but play was confirmed as a good goal.
Less than two minutes later, the lead became 3-1 when Riley Sorokan got a stick on a Jane Keuhl shot and tipped it over Bergmann's shoulder and in.
Cornell did not go away, getting within one via a McKenna Van Gelder goal with 9:27 to play. Off a faceoff in the Princeton end, a Cornell shot clanged around in the crease area, bouncing over Corniea's head to Van Gelder who was alone at the far post for a tap in.
The Tigers are now off for exams, returning to action for a two-game series against Stonehill at Hobey Baker Rink on January 2-3.

A second good goal from Wunder just 0:22 seconds later gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead. O'Leary had the primary assist, driving to the net and taking a shot that Bergmann saved but directed the rebound right to the stick of Wunder who one-timed the puck home.8' left 2nd pd | Princeton 1, Cornell 1
