Men's Track and Field Begins Indoor Season at Penn Opener

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Princeton men's track and field team began the indoor track season with the Penn Opener on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Charlie Sexton had a standout performance in the 60m, setting a new meet record in the prelims as he took first with a time of 6.78. In the final, Sexton took first again, setting another meet record as he ran 6.75. His time is just .08 seconds off from the Princeton record.
Joey Gant and Easton Tan were behind him with times of 6.94 and 6.99, with Tan setting a new PR.
Christian Groendyk also set a new meet record in the 3000m, running 8:09.91 for second place. First-year Sebi Hume was behind him, taking sixth with a time of 8:24.80.
Jacob Emerson took second in the pole vault, clearing 4.90m / 16-0.75.
In the shot put, Joe Licata set a new meet record of 18.43m / 60-5.75 for first place. Joey Goodenow took fifth with a mark of 15.70m / 51-6.25.
In the weight throw, Joey Goodenow took third place with a mark of 15.71m / 51-6.5. Anthony Liakhnovich also made his collegiate debut, throwing 14.11m / 46-3.5 for sixth place.
In the 4x400 relay, a squad of Gant, Sexton, Karl Dietz and Jonathan York ran 3:13.05 for fourth place.
With a strong first day of the indoor season, the Tigers will now look ahead to the new year, when they will take the track again for the Navy Dual on Jan. 10.
