Men’s Tennis Battles Back To Defeat Cornell, Advances To ECAC Championship Match
February 15, 2025 | Men's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Dropping the first set in a singles match 6-2 would deter many people. Aleksandar Mitric was not one of them. With the match on the line for Princeton, Mitric played hero and won his next two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4 to clinch for the Tigers to send them back to the ECAC Championship match.
"I am really proud of our fight and resiliency tonight," head coach Billy Pate said. "It took a big effort to rally and get the win as we really dug ourselves a hole. But we started chipping away midway through singles and did a great job of seizing the momentum. Cornell is a very strong team and we knew coming in it would be a battle. I'm really proud of Aleks for coming through in the clutch and clinching the match."
Fnu Nidunjianzan and Ellis Short won the lone doubles match for Princeton 6-2.
Cornell took a 2-0 lead in the match before Nidunjiazan earned the first point for the Tigers. Paul Inchauspe followed suit with a 6-4, 6-2 win to even the score. Ellis Short picked up a victory on court four to shift the momentum in favor of Princeton.
Soon it all came down to Mitric on court six with the match tied 3-3 before he helped Princeton close the door on the Big Red.
The Tigers will face Harvard in tomorrow's championship match which is set for 5:00 PM.
