No. 13/15 Women’s Hockey To Face RPI In Opening Round Of ECAC Playoffs

PRINCETON, N.J.- The first round of the ECAC playoffs is upon us as the Princeton women's hockey team is set to host the RPI Engineers and looks to avenge the loss just a weekend ago.

Last Time Out: The Tigers split the final regular season weekend with a 2-1 win over the Union Garnet Chargers on Friday night but fell to RPI 4-3 on Saturday. Issy Wunder scored the first goal against Union before finding the back of the net in OT to put Princeton on top. In the matchup versus RPI, Emerson O'Leary scored less than a minute in to make it a 1-0 game. The Engineers found success on back to back power plays to take the lead before adding two more goals. Sarah Paul scored twice in the third but the Tigers were unable to complete the comeback.
Wunder Woman: Issy Wunder notched two goals and an assist across the weekend to officially hit 100 career points. The junior is second on the team in goals with 24, leads in points with 47 and has a +31 rating. Wunder picked up both her first Bluebird Hotels ECAC Forward of the Week and Forward of the Month honors and was also named the UCA Player of the Month in November.
Mac Attack: Mackenzie Alexander is one of two players on the Princeton roster with over 40 points and leads the team in assists with 29. Alexander was named the ECAC Rookie of the Month for the third straight month in December and has added a conference leading four Rookie of the Week honors. To top it off, Alexander was honored as the back-to-back UCA Rookie of the Month in November and December. She leads all freshmen in points, assists and points per game.
Tigers In Top 10: Princeton is listed in the top 10 in the NCAA in several statistical categories: team goals (7th with 110), power-play percentage (7th at 26%), power play goals (t-7th with 23), assists (7th with 176), scoring margin (7th at 1.38), short handed goals (t-10th with three) and points (7th with 286). The Tigers also have several individuals in the top ten in a variety of categories: Sarah Paul leads the nation in goals per game with a 1.00 average with Issy Wunder close behind in third with a 0.83 average. Mackenzie Alexander and Emerson O'Leary are fourth and eighth in assists. Wunder and Alexander are fourth and seventh in points per game. Paul is the leader in power play goals with 10 and is tied for first in total goals with 28. Wunder sits at a tie for fourth with 24.
Paul's Pucks On Net: Sarah Paul scored her first career hat trick on opening night against Robert Morris, all coming on the power play. The junior forward has 28 total goals on the season which is tied for the most in the country. She also has a nation leading 10 goals coming on the offensive advantage. The 28 goals ties her for fifth in program history for most goals in a single season. Paul earned her first career Bluebird Hotels ECAC Forward of the Week honors after weekend matchups between Yale and Brown.
Rooks On A Roll: Every first-year player on the Princeton roster has recorded at least one goal and multiple points this season. The six member class has racked up 91 combined points, good for over 31% of the team's total.
Princeton In the PWHL: Sarah Fillier '24 was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft by the New York Sirens. She notched 30 goals and 13 assists in her senior season with Princeton. Claire Thompson '20 was selected third overall by PWHL Minnesota and earned second-team All-Ivy and third-team All-ECAC honors in her final year with the Tigers in 2020.
Canada Connection: Mackenzie Alexander and Sarah Paul teamed up on the ice together this summer as part of the Canadian Development Team. The pair faced off against the U.S. in the Development Series. Paul competed with the Development team for the Six Nations Tournament in Tampere, Finland from Dec. 11-15.
Double Trouble: Twin sisters Angelina and Lucia DiGirolamo join Princeton from the Bishop Kearney Selects where they were four-time New York state champions.
A Fresh Look: Princeton brings in six new Tigers as part of the class of 2028- Brooklyn Nimegeers, Hannah Fetterolf, Rosie Klein, Mackenzie Alexander, and the DiGirolamo sisters.
The Staff: Head coach Cara Morey returns for her eighth season leading the program. Morey owns a 102-70-22 record entering the 2024-25 season and won her 100th game on Jan. 13, 2024 against Harvard. Taylor Wenczkowski joins Daniel Gould and Jamie Lundmark on the Princeton coaching staff. Wenczkowski spent the 2023-24 season playing for PWHL Boston in the league's inaugural season. Prior to the PWHL, she played three years in the Premier Hockey Federation for the Boston Pride, winning back-to-back Isobel Cups as the league champion in 2021 and 2022.
