Santa Clara Takes Pair from Softball Team as Spring Trip Continues

The Tigers will have two days away from competition as they make it halfway back across the country, heading to Missouri for four games in the Show Me State on Thursday and Friday.
Game 1: Santa Clara 8, Princeton 7 (9 inn.)
Princeton scored six runs over the first two innings, but the host Broncos chipped away and scored the last two runs of the game to take Monday's opener 8-7 in nine innings.Â
Walks to Sonia Zhang and Karis Ford and an Allison Ha base hit loaded the bases for Julia Dumais, who tripled home all three in the first inning, and base hits for Abby Hornberger and Braeden Hale and Zhang being hit by a pitch loaded the bases for a two-RBI single for Karis Ford and a run-scoring hit from Graciela Dominguez to put Princeton up 6-1 an inning and a half in.
Santa Clara clawed back a run in the second, two in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth to pull even at 6-6. Princeton took the lead again with a run in the sixth after Hale doubled and Zhang picked her up with a single to make it 7-6, but the Broncos tied it just in time as a two-out RBI double picked up a leadoff single to make it 7-7.
Following a scoreless eighth and Princeton going in order in the ninth, a base hit and a sacrifice put the winning run at second base for the Broncos, and a fly ball and an errant throw allowed the run to score and end it.
Game 2: Santa Clara 10, Princeton 2 (5 inn.)
Five runs in the first inning and three runs in the second gave the Broncos a lead early, and though Princeton spoiled the shutout with a Zhang solo homer in the third and an Allie Goodwin RBI single in the fourth, two fourth-inning runs for Santa Clara put the game into run-rule territory, and a quiet Tiger fifth finished the nightcap.
