ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 3 Princeton University men's lightweight rowing team split its races with No. 4 Cornell as the Tigers and Big Red raced for the Platt Cup and Harriot Trophy Saturday morning at the Cornell Rowing Center.
While the Tigers' 1V and 4V fell, the 2V and 3V earned victories over the Big Red. Cornell regained the Platt Cup along with the Harriot Trophy, which is based on overall team wins, as the 1V was the tiebreaker.
"It's not often we get thumped like that at the First Varsity level, so the way the guys respond to that will be very important to what we can achieve later this season," said Head Coach Marty Crotty. "Both the second and third boats have continued to make progress in our weekly training sessions, and it showed in their results today. The 2V trailed for most of that race but hung in there and had a great sprint to take the win in their race. Onto Philadelphia."
The Tigers' 2V (6:09.3) came from behind to down the Big Red (6:11.1). The 3V (6:07.8) also picked up the win over Cornell (6:11.2).
Princeton's 1V (6:00.8) finished behind the Big Red (5:51.8), while the 4V (6:49.6) also trailed Cornell (6:26.2).
