April 23, 2025 | Softball
A two-run triple from Jessica Phelps got the scoring going and four strong innings from Cassidy Shaw kept Monmouth in check as the Princeton softball team picked up an 8-2 midweek win at the shore on Wednesday.
The Ivy-leading Tigers will return to Ivy League play on Friday at Penn. Links to follow that game are available here.
An Allison Ha single and a Lauren Sablone walk put two on for Phelps' triple to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, and through a four-inning stint in the circle, Shaw allowed just one hit, no walks, and struck out five.
Princeton built on the lead with a four-run fifth that saw three Tiger hits, from Phelps, Julieta Roa and Allie Goodwin, and three Monmouth errors. Goodwin's hit was an RBI single that led to three final three runs of the inning, helped along by an error.
Goodwin picked up her second RBI in the seventh with a single after Braeden Hale doubled and Courtney Harrison drew a walk. After Sablone singled to load the bases, Graciela Dominguez was hit by a pitch to force in the final run of the game.
After Shaw's four innings, Meghan Harrington went an inning and two thirds, giving up no runs and no hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Monmouth spoiled the shutout with a two-run Izzy Bonacci homer in the sixth as Keala Hollenkamp closed it out with an inning and a third, allowing the two runs on two hits without a walk, striking out one.
