Four In A Row! Softball Team Sweeps Penn to Clinch Ivy Title Share
April 27, 2025 | Softball
A six-inning run-rule win delivered a weekend sweep of Penn and ensured the Princeton softball team at least a share of its fourth straight Ivy League title.
Princeton's 10-2 win on Sunday lifted the team to 15-3 on the Ivy season and gives the Tigers a three-game lead heading into next weekend's series at Brown. It's still to be determined how many teams will go into next weekend at 12-6 and still alive to catch the Tigers atop the Ivy standings. It could be two, with Columbia sweeping Cornell and Harvard sweeping Dartmouth this weekend to get to 12-6, and it could be three, with a Brown a game away weekend sweep of Yale in a series to be completed on Monday.
The Ivy title is Princeton's league-best 23rd and it's the Tigers' fourth in a row, making this the longest title streak in Ivy softball since Princeton won seven in a row from 1983-89.
Columbia, Brown, Harvard and Dartmouth are all still in play for the final three spots in the Ivy League Tournament set for May 8-10. Princeton has already clinched, and one Tiger win in next weekend's three-game series at Brown will make Princeton the host of that tournament.Â
On Sunday, Princeton got the scoring started with a big second inning, pushing six runs across on five hits and a walk. Allison Ha and Allie Goodwin started the inning with hits, and Lauren Pappert singled Ha home before Sonia Zhang singled both Goodwin and Pappert home for a 3-0 lead. After a walk to Braeden Hale, Karis Ford smacked one off the screen on the pole down the left-field line for a three-run homer to make it 6-0.
Ford made it four RBI on the day in the fourth inning, getting a sacrifice fly after hits by Pappert and Hale to make it 7-0, and in the sixth, Julia Dumais hit a three-run homer after a Pappert single and a walk to Ford to put the lead at 10-2 and move Princeton three outs from a win.
Tiger starter Brielle Wright was perfect through four innings before the Quakers scored twice in the fifth on two hits, two hit batters and a walk. Cassidy Shaw entered and finished the game, throwing a spotless inning and two thirds to finish out the win.
