Baseball Drops Twin Bill To Penn
April 04, 2025 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Princeton baseball team took a trip to face the Penn Quakers for a Friday doubleheader. The Tigers were unable to get things going as they dropped both games to the Quakers.
Game 1: Princeton 1, Penn 2
Princeton got off to a quick lead off Jake Koonin's fifth home run of the season in the top of the first.
The Tigers maintained a 1-0 lead through the first three innings before the Quakers were able to tack a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a sac-fly.
Andrew D'Alessio kept Penn at bay through five innings of work and allowed just the one run on four hits. Justin Kim entered the game in the sixth and struck out the first two batters he faced in a three-up three-down frame.
Penn was able to take the lead on back-to-back doubles in the seventh and that would be just enough to take the first game of the twin bill.
Game 2: Princeton 5, Penn 7
For the second game of the day, hitting was in the spotlight compared to the morning's pitchers duel.
Penn struck first with a run on a pair of errors.
Princeton responded with three runs in the third inning, highlighted by homers from Jake Koonin and Jake Bold. However, Penn bounced back in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs to take the lead back.
The Quakers pushed ahead with three more runs in the fifth. Despite a late rally in the eighth, where Princeton added two runs, the Tigers were unable to close the gap, and Penn held on for the win.
