Asante, Scatchard Set New Program Records at Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Adelaide Asante and Mena Scatchard set new program records as the Princeton women's track and field team hosted its first home meet of the season, the Sam Howell Invitational and Distance Carnival, on Friday in Weaver Stadium.
Asante set a new program record in the 200, running a blazing 23.66 to best the program record by one hundredth of a second. Asante de-crowned Nia Mosby, who ran 23.67 in 2022. Asante jumped from ninth on the leaderboard with her 2024 time of 24.36, up to first place.
Scatchard ran the 5000m in just 15:48.24, crushing the 2015 program record of 15:54.03 set by Megan Curham. The record marks Scatchard's seventh in the Princeton indoor and outdoor books combined. Her mark currently ranks fifth in the East region and sixth in the Ivy League all-time.
In the field events, Angela McAuslan-Kelly won the hammer throw, setting a new PR in the with a mark of 62.15m/203-11". The mark is an improvement of over 1m from her previous best of 60.99m. The performance also bumps her up from third to second on the all-time Princeton leaderboard.
Georgina Scoot won the long jump with a mark of 6.14m/20-1.75". Shantell Kwofie won the shot put with a 13.99m/45-10.75" throw. Tessa Mudd cleared 4.05m/13-3.5" in the pole vault for first place.
Maisha Atkinson won the 100m, clocking in at 11.91 - just one hundredth of a second off of her personal best.
The Tigers also took places 1-5 in the 100m hurdle final, with Asante taking first with a time of 13.91. Julia Jongejeugd was just behind her at 14.026, with her and Kwofie having to go into the thousandths to determine placement as Kwofie clocked in at 14.028. Giselle Kirchner took fourth (14.32) and Shea Burke took fifth (14.60).
Lexi Allen won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:15.16.
Daphne Banino set a new PR in the 1500m, clocking in at 4:34.88 for a nearly eight-second improvement from her previous best of 4:42.05.
In the 4x400m relay, a squad of Hannah Riggins, Stella Vieth, Maddie Cramer and Paola Rodriguez took first with a time of 3:51.54.
In a day of strong performances, the Tigers opened the competition in Weaver for the first time this season.
Up next, Princeton will look to the 44 Farms Team Invitational next weekend in College Station, Texas.
