Ten-Run Inning Lifts Tigers to Series Win at Dartmouth

A 10-run sixth inning helped turn a two-run deficit into a run-rule win on Sunday at Dartmouth for the Princeton softball team, which took the three-game series from the Big Green with the 14-6, six-inning win.

The win kept Princeton atop the Ivy League heading into next weekend's trip to Cornell with the Tigers at 8-1 in the league with three series down and four to go.

Princeton opened the scoring in the top of the first with two walks and a hit batter loading the bases for an Allison Ha sacrifice fly, but Dartmouth answered with two walks and a three-run homer to take a 3-1 lead one inning in.

Princeton got a run back in the second when Graciela Dominguez led off with a walk and came home three batters later on a Sonia Zhang double, and the Tigers briefly took the lead when two hits and a walk loaded the bases for a Dominguez sacrifice fly and a Lauren Sablone RBI triple in the third to go up 4-3. Dartmouth retook the lead in the bottom of the third when two hits, a walk and an error led to two runs and a 5-4 Big Green lead.

Following a relatively quiet fourth inning, Dartmouth made it 6-4 in the fifth with a double and a base hit, but it was all Tigers from there. The 10-run top of the sixth saw 10 Tiger hits, with Braeden Hale tripling home a leadoff triple from Dominguez and a walk to Sablone to tie it, Zhang doubling home Hale to put Princeton up 7-6, Karis Ford hitting a two-run homer, Allie Goodwin singling home a Ha double, Jessica Phelps hitting a two-run homer, and a double from Sablone and a walk to Hale putting two on for Zhang and Julia Dumais to get RBI hits for the 14-6 lead.

With the eight-run rule in force, Cassidy Shaw, who entered in the fifth, was in line for the win and allowed just a walk in the last of the sixth to close it out.
