UPDATE: Brown Wins Thursday's ILT Opener, Tigers vs. Harvard Friday at 7:30
May 08, 2025 | Softball
If the Princeton softball team is to win the 2025 Ivy League Tournament, it'll have to start by doing what it did in 2023, and climb all the way back to the final from a first-game defeat.
Brown dealt the Tigers that 4-0 loss on Thursday morning, scoring a run each in the second and fourth innings before adding two in the seventh. Princeton outhit the Bears six to five, but Brown pitcher Alexis Guevara and the Bears defense kept Princeton from breaking through.
Due to Friday's forecast, Friday's play is delayed and will start at 3 p.m. with Brown taking on Columbia, followed by Princeton and Harvard at approximately 7:30. The Brown-Columbia losing team will take on the Harvard-Princeton winning team at approximately 8 p.m.
Brown got on the board in the second inning on three walks in a hit, with the final walk coming with the bases full to push across the game's first run. A leadoff single hit came around a base at a time in the fourth inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly two batters later. In the seventh, a walk, two hits and an unsuccessful fielder's choice added up to Brown's last two runs.
Princeton had runners on in all but the first and sixth innings, putting a runner in scoring position on a Julia Dumais two-out double in the third, singles from Julieta Roa and Allison Ha to start the fourth, and a one-out double from Sonia Zhang in the seventh, but the timely hit to follow didn't come.
Brielle Wright went 6 1/3 innings for the Tigers in the circle, allowing the four runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks, striking out three, before Cassidy Shaw threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing a hit with a strikeout.
