PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team will open the 2025 season at the LD&B Insurance Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia, inside the Convocation Center with marches against Lehigh, Bellarmine and James Madison.
Championship Tradition
The Tigers won their 20th Ivy League title in program history in 2023, finishing Ivy play with a 12-2 record. Princeton shared the championship with Yale, who also went 12-2 in conference play. Princeton's 20 Ivy titles are the most of any Ivy program, with Yale's 14 coming in second.
Head Coach Sabrina King
King is in her 14th season as head coach at Princeton. She has guided the Tigers to five Ivy League titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances and has been named Ivy Coach of the Year three times. Throughout her tenure as head coach, King has coached four Ivy League Players of the Year and 44 All-Ivy honorees. A member of the Class of 2001 at Princeton, she won three Ivy titles as a plyer, was the 1999 Ivy Player of the Year and was a three-time All-Ivy selection.
The Returners
The Tigers return three-time All-Ivy selection Lucia Scalamandre, two-time All-Ivy selection Sydney Draper and 2024 All-Ivy honoree Jackie Onyechi. The trio will be joined by seniors Valerie Nutakor and Ella Bunde, juniors Sydney Bold, Erin McNair and Ava Harrington along with sophomores Sylvia Bunde, Ashtyn Sims, Ashley Duckworth and Nicki Gaito.
The Newcomers
The Tigers welcomed first years Sarah Hom, Shelby Burriss, Lia Skufca, Taylor Clarke and Olivia Foye ahead of the 2025 season.
Sensational Scalamandre
Heading into the 2024 season, Scalamandre, who was the 2022 Ivy Rookie of the Year, ranks No. 7 among active career leaders in hitting percentage (.380). In the Ivy League in 2024, Scalamandre ranked fifth in hitting percentage (.355), third in blocks (97), third in blocks-per-set (1.05), eighth in points (299) and ninth in points-per-set (3.25).
Draper Rising Up The Ranks
The 2023 Ivy Rookie of the Year, Draper was named to the Ivy League All-Tournament Team in 2024. She finished third in the conference in assists-per-set (9.62) and assists (827).
Strong Freshman Season For Onyechi
Onyechi, who was named Second Team All-Ivy in 2024, ranked second in the conference in blocks-per-set (1.10) and second in hitting percentage (.405)
Big Impact From Bold
Bold led the team and ranked fourth in the Ivy League in digs-per-set (3.20). She was also named to the Villanova Classic All-Tournament Team.
Scouting Lehigh
The Mountain Hawks are 2-1 in 2025, most recently defeating Binghamton, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 26-24), on Aug. 30. Lehigh compiled a 16-13 record in 2024 along with an 8-8 record in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks advanced to the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament, falling to No. 1 seed Colgate, 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-23).
Scouting Bellarmine
Bellarmine is 2-1 in 2025, defeated SIUE in its most recent match on Aug. 30, 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 27-25). 2024 saw the Knights go 7-19 and 4-12 in Atlantic Sun competition.
Scouting JMU
James Madison is currently 0-3 on the season, and most recently fell to Florida Golf Coast on Aug. 31, 3-2 (25-17, 25-27, 25-23, 24-26, 15-11). The Dukes went 11-16 overall and 6-10 in Sun Belt play in 2024. JMU was picked second in the East Division of the 2025 Sun Belt Preseason Coaches' Poll.
