
Women's Volleyball Splits Second Day At LD&B Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team split its matches on the second day of competition at the LD&B Invitational inside the Convocation Center, first completing a reverse sweep against Bellarmine, 3-2 (22-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-23), then falling to James Madison, 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17).
Princeton vs Bellarmine
Erin McNair led the way with a double-double and a career morning, as she recorded a match and career-high 21 kills, a career-high 13 digs along with a team-high two service aces. Lucia Scalamandre had 16 kills on a .667 hitting percentage and a match-high five blocks while Taylor Clarke added 11 kills and hit .500. Sydney Draper tallied a double-double with a match-high 51 assists and 10 digs while Olivia Foye's 21 digs were a match-high.
The Knights came out on top in the first two sets, but the Tigers showed their resilience and came roaring back in the third. Up 4-3, a kill by Scalamandre followed by a pair of McNair kills put Princeton ahead, 7-3, and the Tigers had all the momentum from there. Another Scalamandre kill then two Bellarmine attacking errors extended Princeton's advantage to eight at 19-11. The Tigers closed the set out with a 4-0 run, winning 25-15.
The fourth set was played to a stalemate at 8-8, but kills by McNair, Jackie Onyechi and Clarke put the Tigers in front, 11-8. Princeton withstood a 4-0 Bellarmine run as the Knights would eventually narrow the deficit to one 18-17, but a 6-0 run gave the Tigers set point at 24-18. Clarke delivered the kill as the Tigers took the fourth set, 25-18 and sent the match five.
Little separated Princeton and Bellarmine in the fifth set in what was an epic battle that went down to the wire and had a combined 11 match points. After trading match points, a McNair kill put the Tigers ahead 24-23 then a kill by Clarke sealed the victory for Princeton, 25-23 in the set and 3-2 in the match.
Princeton at JMU
The Tigers were led by Clarke, who recorded 15 kills while Valerie Nutakor added 13 and McNair 12. Draper handed out a match-high 46 assists and had nine digs while Scalamandre tallied a team-high three blocks. Bold led the team in digs with 15.
Princeton would again drop the first two sets but bounce back in the third. While the Dukes would take a 14-13 lead, a kill by Nutakor ignited a 4-0 run that put Princeton in front, 17-14. Kills by Clarke and McNair gave the Tigers a 19-15 advantage, then set point came on a Nutakor kill that made it 24-19. Shelby Burriss put down the kill on set point, making it 25-21.
After back-to-back five set matches, the Tigers ran out of steam in the fourth set. James Madison opened it with a 6-0 run and did not look back. JMU would earn the 25-16 fourth set victory, taking the match 3-1.
