About the Tigers
- Princeton last competed at the F&M Open last Friday. Five Tigers placed as Holden Garcia took silver at 174, Chris Martino took fourth at 149, Zander Silva took fourth at 165, Xavier Giles took fifth at 184 and Dan Jones took sixth at 133.
- In duals, Princeton last competed in a doubleheader at the Journeymen Armbar, where they downed Hofstra, 36-6, before falling to Lock Haven, 28-6.
- Ty Whalen and Marc-Anthony McGowan went 2-0 on the day, with Whalen getting a first-period pin and McGowan earning a tech fall against Hofstra. Both followed up their bonus-point performances with solid victories by decision against Lock Haven.
- In duals, the Tigers are 2-4 on the season. They were ranked 13th in the latest NWCA Mid-Major Coaches Poll, announced last Thursday.
- Having a strong season, Eligh Rivera and Whalen each had podium finishes at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas invite in December, with Rivera taking silver in the 149 class and Whalen taking bronze at 165.
- En route to the final match, Rivera had two straight top-5 wins as he took down #3 Lachlan McNeil in the quarterfinal before downing #4 Jacob Frost in the semifinal.
- Whalen's weekend in Vegas saw the junior get two tech falls and a major as he worked back from a semifinal loss to take third place.
- The Tigers opened the season dropping a razor-thin dual with #19 Pitt, losing 20-19 after losing the heavyweight match. First year Matthew Martino earned a ranked win in his collegiate debut, while Kole Mulhauser opened the dual season with a pin.
- Mulhauser and McGowan also had big performances in Princeton's dual against Northwestern, as both earned tech falls on the day. Despite winning four matches, the Tigers fell 21-19.
- Princeton boasted five NCAA qualifiers in 2025, with four returning this year in McGowan, Rivera, Whalen and Mulhauser.
- The Tigers are led by Head Coach Joe Dubuque, in his third year at the helm. The former national champion from Indiana is joined by fellow national champions Cody Brewer, head assistant coach, and Anthony Ashnault, assistant coach, both in their second year with the Tigers. Assistant Coach Ryan Wolfe, in his first year at Princeton, rounds out the Tiger corner.
