Princeton Falls To Arizona State 4-3 At ITA Kickoff Weekend
January 24, 2026 | Men's Tennis
The four teams who gathered Saturday morning at the University of San Diego for the ITA Kickoff Weekend were all unbeaten. By Sunday evening, three would have at least one loss and only one would still be perfect.
Princeton came within a bounce here or there from being the perfect one.
Princeton suffered its first loss of the season 4-3 at the hands of Arizona State, completing its 10-day, four-match Western trip at 3-1. ASU advances to the ITA Indoor Championships next month in Texas.
"It was a tough outcome today as we built a commanding lead and had ASU on the ropes," said Princeton head coach Billy Pate. "I'm really proud of the guys for the fight and energy, but we simply didn't find the finish line. This one hurts, but we will rebound and be better."
After the Tigers took the doubles point with wins by Fnu Nidunjianzan and Meecah Bigun at No. 2 and Sebastian Sec and Aleksandar Mitric at No. 3, Sec (No. 4) and Paul Inchauspe (No. 1) made it 3-0 Princeton with straight set wins. ASU won the remaining four matches, three in three sets and the fourth 7-6,7-5.
Princeton will have three home matches this coming weekend, against Oklahoma State Friday and then Liberty and Virginia Tech Sunday.
