About the Tigers
- Princeton most recently dropped two duals to Columbia and Rider last weekend, with the road match at Rider a razor-thin 20-19 defeat as the Tigers won six matches but lost a team point on a called headgear toss.
- Several Tigers came up with big results at Rider, highlighted by first-year Matthew Martino, who strung together a seven-point play to come from behind and upset #14 Eli Griffin.
- Xavier Giles and Eligh Rivera each had wins in OT, while Rocco Camillaci also had a come-from-behind victory. Ty Whalen and Holden Garcia both took care of business too, with Whalen picking up a major decision.
- With last weekend's results, the Tigers are now 2-7 on the year in duals, with wins over Appalachian State and Hofstra.
- Three of the Tigers' losses have been to ranked opponents, including #19 Pitt, #22 WVU and #20 Lehigh.
- Princeton was ranked 18th in the latest NWCA Mid-Major Coaches Poll, announced Jan. 21.
- Having a strong season, Rivera and Whalen each had podium finishes at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas invite in December, with Rivera taking silver in the 149 class and Whalen taking bronze at 165.
- En route to the final match, Rivera had two straight top-5 wins as he took down #3 Lachlan McNeil in the quarterfinal before downing #4 Jacob Frost in the semifinal.
- Whalen's weekend in Vegas saw the junior get two tech falls and a major as he worked back from a semifinal loss to take third place.
- The Tigers opened the season dropping a close dual with #19 Pitt, losing 20-19 after losing the heavyweight match. First-year Martino earned a ranked win in his collegiate debut.
- Princeton boasted five NCAA qualifiers in 2025, with four returning this year in McGowan, Rivera, Whalen and Mulhauser.
- The Tigers are led by Head Coach Joe Dubuque, in his third year at the helm. The former national champion from Indiana is joined by fellow national champions Cody Brewer, head assistant coach, and Anthony Ashnault, assistant coach, both in their second year with the Tigers. Assistant Coach Ryan Wolfe, in his first year at Princeton, rounds out the Tiger corner.
