Four in Double Figures Lead Men's Basketball to 80-68 Victory at Columbia

NEW YORK – A balanced attack that featured four double figure scorers saw the Princeton University men's basketball team leave Levien Gymnasium with an 80-68 victory over Columbia Saturday night.
The Tigers were aided by a hot shooting night, recording shooting percentages of 57.1% (28-for-49) from the field and 53.3% (8-for-15) from three, both season-highs. In addition, the Tigers turned in a strong defensive performance and blocked a season-high seven shots.
Sophomore Jack Stanton scored a game-high 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting from three, with his six made three-pointers a career-high, along with 3-for-4 shooting from the free throw line. Stanton also led the team in assists with four and added three rebounds. Junior Jackson Hicke recorded 18 points, six rebounds and three assists while sophomore Malik Abdullahi tallied 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and a game-high seven rebounds. Freshman Landon Clark was Princeton's fourth double figure scorer, finishing with 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
The Tigers moved to 165-86 all-time against Columbia, and Franklin C. Cappon-Edward C. Green '40 Head Coach Mitch Henderson improved his record against Columbia to 25-3.
While sophomore CJ Happy connected on a three-pointer for the game's first basket with 19:33 on the clock, the lions would gradually pull away and take a 16-9 advantage with 12:16 on the clock. A pair of free throws by Clark with 10:48 remaining the half made it 18-13, but the Lions gained momentum and jumped ahead by nine at 8:24, 25-16.
A Stanton three-pointer with 7:11 ignited an 8-0 run that made it a 25-24 contest with 6:00 on the clock, then a junior Dalen Davis layup followed by a powerful putback slam by Abdullahi put Princeton in front, 28-27, with 3:36 left in the half. The Tigers and Lions would go into halftime tied at 34-34.
The Tigers take on the University of Pennsylvania (10-10, 3-4) inside the Palestra on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.

A put-back layup by Hicke with 3:17 left to play put the Tigers in front, 71-59. Stanton buried his sixth three-pointer with 2:14 on the clock then junior Jacob Huggins went 2-for-2 from the free throw line, which put the Tigers up 76-62.
