Men's Basketball Falls Just Short at Penn, 61-60

PHILADELPHIA – In a game that went down to the final possession, the Princeton University men's basketball team rallied from 12 down but fell just short to the University of Pennsylvania inside the Palestra, 61-60.
The all-time series between the Tigers and Quakers is now tied, 127-127.
Junior Jacob Huggins tied his career-high in scoring with a team-high 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting while adding six rebounds. Sophomore Malik Abdullahi recorded his second career double-double with 12 points, a game and career-high 11 rebounds along with a game-high four assists, a figure that tied his career-high. Junior Jackson Hicke added 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
The Quakers jumped out to a 14-8 lead with 14:17 on the clock, a dunk by sophomore CJ Happy with 3:19 remaining in the half led a 6-0 run that saw the Tigers narrow the deficit to one at 11:36, 16-15. Penn kept their edge, and used a 9-0 run to surge ahead 31-22, with 1:06 left in the half then took a 35-25 advantage into halftime.
Princeton came out strong in the second half, with an alleyoop dunk by Huggins igniting an 8-0 run that made it a 39-35 contest with 14:23 on the clock. Penn would soon extend its lead back out to double figures, 46-35, with 12:39 remaining after a 7-0 run.
The Tigers chipped away at the Quakers' lead, with a freshman Landon Clark three-pointer narrowing the deficit to five, 56-51, with 4:49 remaining. A layup followed by a mid-range jumper by Abdullahi made it a one-point contest at 1:41, 58-57, then a junior Dalen Davis three-pointer kept the deficit at one, 61-60, with 0:57 on the clock. On the game's final posses, Davis backed down the defender and released a shot from just inside the free throw line that looked good out of the hand but just rimmed out, which saw Penn hold on for the 61-60 victory.
