Men's Basketball Drops Home Contest to Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's basketball team couldn't get past Cornell Friday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium, falling to the Big Red, 89-65.
Junior Dalen Davis recorded a team-high 19 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field, 3-for-4 from three and 4-for-4 from the free throw line while also grabbing five rebounds. Davis, who now has 106 made three-pointers in his career, moved up to No. 27 all-time in program history in career three-pointers and passed Myles Stephens '19, who made 105.
Sophomore Malik Abdullahi finished with 14 points and went 8-for-9 from the free throw line, while tallying a team-high six rebounds.
Cornell made its first five field goal attempts and raced out to a 15-4 advantage with 15:09 left in the half, but three-pointers by Davis and freshman Sebastian Whitfield followed by a pair of Abdullahi free throws narrowed the deficit to five, 21-16, with 11:05 remaining in the half. The Big Red further extended its lead to 18, 40-22, with 2:44 on the clock then took a 44-27 advantage into halftime.
While the Tigers attempted to make a comeback in the second half, Cornell built its lead out to 51-29 with 18:21 remaining in the half. A Davis three-pointer made it 59-39 at 14:25. A Whitfield layup followed by a pair of Davis free throws then a layup by sophomore CJ Happy narrowed the deficit to 16, 61-45, with 12:44 remaining as the Tigers chipped away at Cornell's advantage. Cornell used an 11-0 run to surge ahead, 77-52, at 7:24 and went on to earn the 89-65 win.
