January 31, 2026 | Wrestling
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – With four Tigers getting results, including a pin by Holden Garcia, the Princeton wrestling team fell in a late heartbreaker, 19-17, to Harvard on Saturday afternoon in Cambridge.
Matthew Martino got the Tigers on the board at 141. After finding himself down 6-0 after the first period, Martino got a two point reversal and let it fly, getting the first of what would be three near-falls as he climbed his way back to a major decision.
After scoring a whopping 14 points in the second period while conceding zero, Martino rode out Dante Frinzi, picking up an extra point to take the MD, 15-6.
Eligh Rivera took the mat next, taking care of business over Jack Crook with an 8-6 decision. After finding himself down 3-1, Rivera made an escape and two takedowns to get three more points for Princetoin.
Ty Whalen gave Princeton the lead at 165, as he worked his way to a 10-2 decision over Joseph Cangro. Striking first, Whalen made three takedowns and picked up an extra point on riding time to pick up four team points and put the Tigers up, 11-10.
Adding to the Tiger lead, Garcia was up 6-2 in the first period, when he got Harvard's Haden Bottiglieri in a cradle, pinning him in just 2:30.
With six points added to the tally, Princeton took a 17-10 lead. However, as Harvard won the next three matches, the Tigers couldn't hold on to secure the team win.
