Six Tigers Earn Arm-Raises as Princeton Defeats Brown, 27-18

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Winning six matches with five Tigers earning bonus points, the Princeton wrestling team took down Brown, 27-18, on Sunday afternoon in Providence, R.I.
Ethan Rivera's 41-second pin highlighted the match, while Ty Whalen and Dale O'Blia each took wins by technical fall. Holden Garcia and Xavier Giles added four points apiece to the Tiger tally with major decisions, while Eligh Rivera got a decision victory on the day.
O'Blia got the dual off to a hot start at 125, picking up a tech fall over Chase Yasutake in just 1:58 after racing to 16 points while conceding none.
Moving swiftly into the 133 match, the Tigers would extend their lead as Ethan Rivera would take a quick victory himself, pinning Douglas Shipers in just 41 seconds.
At 149, Eligh Rivera was clinical as he made two key takedowns while defending well and wrestling through dangerous positions. Coming away with an 8-2 decision, Rivera's solid performance added three to the Tigers' team score.
Whalen dominated at 165, quickly racking up points as he tilted Max Norman, resulting in three near falls. Getting a 17-1 tech fall in just 2:34, Whalen added another five points to the Tiger lead.
Garcia had a strong result at 174, defending Drew Clearie's shots and turning them into scoring opportunities as he worked to an 11-2 major decision victory.
Holding an 8-3 decision in the third period, Giles continued to score, making another takedown to push him into major territory to put Princeton up by another four points.
With competitive performances resulting in six Tiger arm raises, Princeton now improves to 3-7 in duals and 1-2 in Ivy play this season.
The Tigers will now return home, next hosting Ivy rival Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 7 with the first bout set for 8 p.m. in Jadwin Gym.
