Career scoring/pronunciations

A – All Alone
The Princeton-Lehigh game is the only game in Division I between Sunday and Friday.
B – Balance
Princeton averages 13 goals per game but does not have a single player in the Ivy League top 10 in goals per game.
C – Chad And Dunphey
Chad Palumbo and John Dunphey both had five goals against Brown Saturday. The last time Princeton had two players with five or more goals in the same game was in last year’s NCAA tournament opening round win over Towson, when Nate Kabiri and Tucker Wade had five each.
D – Dunphey
John Dunphey had career highs of five goals, three assists and eight points in the win at Brown. Dunphey had 10 goals in the 23 games from the start of last season until two weeks ago and now as seven goals in the last two games — on seven shots. Dunphey was 4 for 17 shooting for the season prior to that. Who was the last Princeton player to score goals on seven straight shots? Chad Palumbo, against Towson and Syracuse in last year’s NCAA tournament.
E – Extraordinary
Princeton defeated Brown 20-14 Saturday, never trailing for the final 55 minutes and leading by at least five goals for the final 37 minutes — despite having 11 failed clears, allowing six extra-man goals while only committing four penalties and having only one caused turnover.
F – Following
Princeton has not lost consecutive games in the same season since a four-game losing streak early in 2023. Since then, Princeton is 12-0 in the game following a loss (in the same season; the Tigers lost the 2025 NCAA quarterfinal game against Syracuse and then the opener this year against Penn State), including the win over Brown Saturday.
G – Groundballs
Hunter Speiss had nine groundballs in the game against Brown and now has 33 through eight games, an average of 4.13 per game that ranks fifth in the Ivy League overall and first among non-face-off men. What is the record for groundballs in a season by a Tiger longstick? That would be 99, by Todd Higgins in 1995.
H – Home vs. Away
Princeton is 3-2 at home and 3-0 on the road through eight games this season.
I – Ivy League
Harvard is the lone unbeaten team in the Ivy League at 2-0, followed by 2-1 Princeton, Cornell and Penn, 1-2 Yale and 0-2 Dartmouth and Brown. This weekend’s games will have Yale at Dartmouth, Brown at Harvard and Cornell at Penn. Princeton is in its non-league weekend and will play at Vermont Saturday.

J – Just Added
Princeton’s Peter Buonanno, Nate Kabiri and Jack Stahl were added to the Tewaaraton Watchlist in the most recent additions announced last week. Ryan Croddick and Chad Palumbo were preseason selections.
K – Kabiri
Nate Kabiri ranks fifth among active juniors in Division I in career assists (77) and points (149) and leads the Ivy League in assists per game (2.25). Kabiri leads all current Princeton players in career goals (77), assists (72) and points (149).
L – Lehigh
Lehigh is 5-5 on the season, 2-3 in the Patriot League after having a three-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 14-11 loss at Army-West Point. Princeton and Lehigh have no common opponents to date this season. The Tigers defeated the Mountain Hawks 17-12 a year ago, also in Princeton, getting three goals each from Colin Burns and Tucker Wade. Lehigh’s Andrew Kelly scored four times. Finn Morgan leads the Mountain Hawks with 33 goals and has at least three in eight games.
M – Make Shots
Princeton (No. 6) and Lehigh (No. 10) are two of the national leaders in team shooting percentage.
N – Neary
A to Z owes an apology to Mike Neary of the Class of 1982. Prior to Jackson Green, it was actually Neary who was the most recent Princeton athlete to score at least one goal in lacrosse and at least one touchdown in football. Neary had 19 career lacrosse goals
O – On A Roll
Princeton is 50-22 dating to the start of the 2022 season, with four NCAA tournament appearances in four seasons.
P – Parker
Freshman Parker Reynolds has seven goals and eight assists to date, with at least two points in each of his last seven games for the longest such current streak on the team. Only four Princeton freshmen middies have reached double figures in goals and assists this century: Ryan Boyle in 2001, Whitney Hayes and Scott Sowanick in 2004 and Tom Schreiber in 2011.
Q – Quite A Stat
Matt Madalon has a theory that a team should win the overwhelming amount of time when its face-off percentage and save percentage added together exceeds 1.000. In his career as Tiger head coach, his team has had 70 games in which its FO percentage added to its save percentage is greater than 1.000; its record in those games is 61-9, including the win over Brown Saturday.

R – Rankings
Princeton is ranked No. 5 in this week’s Kane Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, No. 4 in the USILA coaches’ poll and No. 3 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. Princeton is also No. 2 in the RPI ratings (with wins over No. 1 North Carolina and No. 3 Syracuse).
S – Stahl
Jack Stahl, who was named the No. 1 breakout player of the year to date by Inside Lacrosse last week, has not allowed more than one goal against any of the last six players he’s guarded.
T – Turnovers
Princeton had 16 turnovers against Brown — of which 11 came on failed clears and five came in settled situations. Princeton leads the Ivy League and is 10th nationally in fewest turnovers per game at 13.75. Lehigh’s Richard Checo leads the Patriot League and is seventh in Division I in caused turnovers per game (2.40); Checo is the all-time Division I leader in career caused turnovers.
U – Unclear
The series history between Princeton and Lehigh is somewhat uncertain. The Princeton record book and the Lehigh record book agree that the first game in the series was a 3-1 Princeton win in 1888. They also agree that there were 10 more games through 1933, though they disagree on the final score of the 1933 game - Lehigh has it 8-4 Princeton; Princeton has it 8-1. It gets a little murkier in 1934 and 1935, when Lehigh has games against Princeton but Princeton has games against Lehigh L.C., not Lehigh, like the first 11 games. Then there's 1940 and 1941, when Lehigh has a pair of games against Princeton that Princeton has no record of having been played.
V – Vana
Jake Vana scored twice against Brown. He has either no goals (five times) or two or more goals (three times) in all eight games this year.
W – Wade
Tucker Wade, who leads the team with 16 goals, has scored the first Princeton goal in each of the last two games and 11 times in the 25 games since the start of last season.
X – Face-Off X
Andrew McMeekin holds the Princeton record for career groundballs with 350 and is second all-time at Princeton in face-off wins with 563, trailing the school record of 646, held by Greg Waller (1989-92). McMeekin is second among active Division I players in career face-off attempts (1,083), face-off wins (563) and groundballs (350), trailing Canisius’ Micah Hanson (by at least 100) in all three.
Y – Yearly
Colin Burns and Nate Kabiri are in Year 6 of playing together, between club ball, Georgetown Prep and now Princeton. Burns and Kabiri are the only two current Princeton players who have started every game of their careers.
Z – Zinger
Princeton has five players whose fathers competed at Princeton, two of whom played lacrosse. Freshman Evan Calkins is the son of Ed Calkins, a midfielder on the 1992 NCAA championship team. Sophomore Kevin Morrow is the son of David Morrow, the 1993 Division I Player of the Year. Sophomore Porter Malkiel is the son of Jon Malkiel, a member of the 1992 and 1994 NCAA title teams. Junior Cooper Mueller is the son of Kit Mueller, the 1990 and 1991 Ivy League men’s basketball Player of the Year. Gus van Metzsch is the son of Roland von Metzsch, a football offensive lineman in the early 1990s.
