Before Princeton: Rooney holds three schools records at Monroe-Woodbury, in the 600, 4x8 relay and the distance medley relay. He was a member of the state championship 4x400 relay and state runner-up in the 4x800 relay. In his career, Rooney ran at the state meet in the 800, 1000 and 4x800 and competed at the New Balance Nationals in the 600, sprint medley relay and the 4x800. Rooney has PRs of 50.44 in the 400, 1:21.49 in the 600 and 1:54.34 in the 800.
