John Furtado began as an athletic trainer at Princeton in 1996. He currently works with the men's hockey, men's and women's volleyball and the women's lightweight crew teams.
Furtado also works as a physical therapist for the entire student body, seeing students through the McCosh Health Center. Prior to joining the Princeton staff in 1996, Furtado spent three years at Hawthorne Physical Therapy and Sport Medicine in Dartmouth, MA. Along with his duties at Hawthorne, in 1995 he worked at Dartmouth High School. In 1993 and 1994 while working full time, interned at Brown University, where he earned his NATA certification in September 1994. Furtado is a 1993 Northeastern graduate with a degree in physical therapy. In 2005, he graduated from the University of California at Pennsylvania with a masters of science in exercise science and health promotion. Furtado also became certified strength and conditioning specialist in August 1996 and performance enhancement specialist in 2005.
Furtado is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Physical Therapy Association, National Athletic Trainers' Association and National Strength and Conditioning Association. Currently, Furtado is the treasure for the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association.
A native of Fall River, Mass., Furtado resides in the Princeton area.
