No. 4 Men's Lightweight Rowing Finishes Second & Wins Pair Of Medals At Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 4 Princeton University men's lightweight rowing team finished second in the team standings and won a pair of medals at Eastern Sprints Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond, with the 3V winning silver and the 1V bronze.
The Tigers tallied 30.00 points to finish second behind Harvard, who had 39.00 points. Cornell came in third with 29.00 points.
"I thought all the Princeton crews had their best races of the year," said Head Coach Marty Crotty. "Every crew has had some low points this season whether it was getting beat by some margins we're not accustomed to, or just constant shuffling of lineups due to illness and injury. But, today showed the teams resilience—to trust each other and race hard.
The 4V's result may not show it, but those guys have made huge strides this year to be able close the gap today between them and the class of the League.
I was really pleased with the 3V's silver medal performance. After a slow start they had to put the blinders on and row their own race. It was pretty thrilling watching them row through four crews over the course of that race. Senior Captain Will Nash has had his fair share of tough moments during his career but today he got his medal at the Sprints. We're really going to miss senior coxswain Laney Gold Rappe who once again showed that she's of the best that the Princeton Men's Lightweight Rowing Team has ever had.
The 2V's result does not show how far they've come this season. They rowed their best race of the year despite rowing a different lineup for every race this season. I look forward to seeing what they can do with two more weeks of rowing together before the IRA regatta
In their two races the 1V had some stretches where they showed the speed they've been throwing down in some of our recent workouts. All credit goes to Harvard and Cornell for their great session and for the speed they showed today to win gold and silver. It was too much for us to handle today but our guys are really close to putting a complete race together and I'm excited to see what they do next week in Cherry Hill.
This is a really quick turnaround this year between Sprints and IRAs with graduation for our seniors in between. But there's enough time to find a little more speed and we'll have them ready to put up an even better fight than they did today."
The Tigers had a productive morning session that sent its top three boats to their respective Grand Finals.
The 3V (6:12.258) won its 14th medal in program history and its third silver, finishing just behind Harvard (6:08.208) in a race that went down to the wire. The Tigers came in ahead of Navy (6:14.020), who won bronze.
For the 48th time in program history, the 1V (5:52.793) medaled, winning bronze. The bronze was the 1V's 16th at Eastern Sprints and came in a close Grand Final, that saw Cornell (5:49.285) and the Crimson (5:46.739) finish just ahead of the Tigers to earn the top two spots on the podium.
The 2V (6:00.286) narrowly missed a spot on the podium, finishing just behind Yale (5:58.214) who came in third. The 4V (6:23.778) took fifth in its Grand Final.
