Cara Borkovec finished her second season with the Princeton water polo programs in 2019-20. She was hired in August of 2018.
The men's team went 16-15 overall in 2019 and advanced to the NWPC Tournament Championship for the second straight year. The women's squad was 8-3 and on a six-game winning streak before the rest of the season was cancelled due to the Coronavirus.
The men's water polo squad went 19-11 in 2018 and won the Northeast Water Polo Conference title. The Tigers finished No. 13 in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll after securing the program's sixth NCAA Tournament appearance. The women's water polo unit went 21-9 in 2019, reaching the CWPA Championship Game for the third straight season. The Tigers won eight games against nationally ranked foes, seven against schools from California and finished No. 15 in the final CWPA Varsity Poll.
Borkovec finished her playing career at UC-Irvine where she scored 22 goals and was second on the team in assists (21) and tied for second in steals (19) in 2018. One of her career highlights was scoring the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime against top-seeded Hawaii in the 2018 Big West Championship game, giving the Anteaters its second straight conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance. She graduated from UC-Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior.
She also scored 17 tallies for the Anteaters in 2017 before transferring from USC. As a freshman, Borkovec registered four goals for the Trojans, who placed third at the NCAA Tournament. As senior at Laguna Beach High School, the assistant coach was named OC Athlete of the Year and to the All-CIF team, helping her team win the 2014 CIF-SS Water Polo Division I title. She spent time with the Windy City and Set Water Polo Clubs as well.
Her coaching background features time as an assistant to the varsity squad and junior varsity head coach at Laguna Beach from 2014-18, highlighted by the women's team's 2018 Division-I crown this year. She also coached at SET Aquatics, helping the 16U A team to the Junior Olympics championship and the 16U B team to eighth place at the Junior Olympics this year.
