Before Princeton: Sims is the Gatorade Hawai’I Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. She is the second athlete from Hawaii Prep to earn the honor, joining fellow Princetonian Heather Onuma in 1995. Sims has a PR of 2:13 in the 800 and a 4:36 in the 1500. She won the state titles in both events outdoors in 2013 with a state record of 4:36.22 in the 1500 and 2:13.58 in the 800. Sims was also the 1500 state champion as a sophomore.
