Princeton Opens Ivy Schedule With a Rout

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Princeton University field hockey team may have a national title on its mind, but the Tigers haven't forgotten about defending their four consecutive Ivy League crowns either.
After opening their season with a pair of non-conference wins, the Tigers defeated Cornell, 9-0, to go to 3-0, 1-0 in the Ivy League. Eight players scored, including season-firsts for Adrienne Breslin (Sr., Macungie, Pa.), AnnMarie Reich (Sr., Washington Depot, Conn.), Hilary Matson (So., Marathon, N.Y.), Alison Morris (Sr., Coquitlam, B.C.) and Brooke Doherty (Sr., Haverford, Pa.). Jen Sodaski (Fr., Newtown Square, Pa.) scored her first career goal with a shot in the 71st minute. Kate Fox (Jr., Chichester, N.H.) had two goals, including a late penalty stroke.
Princeton outshot Cornell, 50-2, and took 19 more penalty corners. Meg DeJong (Sr., Tinton Falls, N.J.) notched her second shutout of the season by making two saves. The Tigers will stay in New York for a game at ninth-ranked Syracuse on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
