No. 7 Princeton Upsets No. 5 Penn State In Field Hockey

PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore attack Ilvy Friebe (Bonn, Germany) scored two goals to lead No. 7 Princeton to a 3-1 victory over No. 5 Penn State on Sunday afternoon at Class of 1952 Stadium.
The Tigers, who came off of a pivotal Ivy League win against Harvard (2-0) on Saturday, took the early lead against Penn State on an unassisted goal from Friebe at the 16:39 mark in the first half.
Princeton dominated the first period of play, taking 13 shots compared to Penn State's three attempts, and headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Friebe connected for her second goal of the game off of a corner play assisted by freshman Cory Picketts (Marmora, N.J.). Friebe now owns five goals on the season, including three in the last two games.
The Tiger's final goal came with 25:11 remaining in the game as Picketts notched her fifth score of the season on a corner play assisted by Hilary Matson (Marathon, N.Y.) and Kellie Maul (Marlton, N.J.). Penn State managed to score its only goal with 16:17 left to play on the team's first corner of the game. Kelly Concini (Danville, Pa.) was credited with the unassisted goal.
Tiger goalkeeper Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) played all 70 minutes making four saves on nine Nittany Lion attempts, allowing one goal. Penn State's Annie Zinkavich (Kingston, Pa.) collected six saves.
Princeton (10-3, 5-0 Ivy) will take the week off before travelling to Storrs, Connecticut to face UConn on Sunday, Oct. 29th at 1 p.m. Following that game, the team will go to Cornell for a Tuesday afternoon match-up with the Big Red (4 p.m.). A win against Cornell would clinch the Ivy League title for the seventh-consecutive season.
