Tigers in Position for Heps Titles

HANOVER, Vt. - The Princeton men's and women's track teams are competing in the Heptagonal championships this weekend at Dartmouth College. A majority of the preliminary events were run today with a few finals run as well.
Junior pole vaulter Jonathan Jessup (Bryan, Texas) won his first ever individual title with a height of 16' 4.75". Freshman Brandon Braunstein was sixth with a height of 15' 3"
Sophomore sensation Paul Morrison (Chatham, Ont.) won the 3000 meters with a time of 8:12.47. He was the 1999 Heptagonal cross country champion. Mike Spence (Sr., East Stroudsburg, Pa.) was fourth in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:20.79. Morrison also finished third in his preliminary heat of the mile run with a time of 4:13.84.
John Mack finished first in his preliminary heat of the 400 meters. Mack, the most outstanding performer of the 1999 outdorr Heps championships, finished in 48.92.
The women's team was led by Jen Cannistra in the 5000 meters 17:32.50 for third place and Courtney Ebersole finished in 17:36.51 good enough for seventh place.
The women's team is seeking its first Heps title since 1998. The men's team is looking for the second leg of its third consecutive triple crown.
