Sam Howell Memorial a Success for Tigers

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the third annual Sam Howell Memorial Invitational this afternoon at the Weaver Track and Field Stadium on the Campus of Princeton University.
The men's portion of the meet was highlighted with several top finishes by the Tigers. Ryan Smith (So., Morris Plains, N.J.) finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 48.78. His win was duplicated in the triple jump by David Gary (Fr., Wyncote, Pa.) who leaped 14.40 meters for the win. Scott Denbo (Jr., Nashville, Tenn.) finished first in the shot put with a mark of 18.80 meters. Jeff Petrulis (Fr., West Lake, Ohio) finished second to Denbo with a mark of 16.61.
The women's side of the ledger was highlighted by a 1-2 Princeton finish in the high jump. Shawneequa Callier (Sr., New York, N.Y.) finished first with a height of 1.69 meters. Rebecca Desman (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) was second in the high jump with a 1.64 marking. Nikola Holme (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.), a star player on the ice hockey team, finished first in the long jump with a distance of 5.41 meters. Princeton also finished 1-2 in the triple jump. Sharon Jordan (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished first with a distance of 11.67 meters and Erick Dickson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) finished second with a mark of 11.53 meters.
The men's team returns to action next weekend in a dual meet with Penn, Penn State and Villanova, while the women's team travels to the Quaker Invitational and Franklin Field.
