Princeton Tops Cornell and Yale for Carnegie Cup

ITHACA, N.Y. - The men's heavyweight crew sailed to a seven-second victory over Ivy foes Yale and Cornell Saturday morning on Cauyga Lake Inlet in Ithaca, N.Y. The morning opened with a tailwind, but by the third race the wind had shifted, forcing the first and second varsity boats to race into a strong headwind.
Princeton won its 10th consecutive Carnegie Cup by finish first in the first varsity eight race. The Tigers had a time of 6:02.00 and were followed by Cornell in 6:09.60. Yale finished in third with a time of 6:14.5. Princeton also won the second varsity race, finishing in a time of 6:05.1 Cornell was in second in 6:14.5, while Yale finished in 6:18.20
Princeton continued its dominance in the freshman race, winning in 6:01.5 to edge Yale, who finished in 6:04.7
Cornell opened the day with two wins in the third varsity and the second freshman races. The Big Red turned in a time of 6:00.00 in the third varsity, followed by Princeton at 6:05.3. Cornell also won the second freshman event in a time of 6:12.7, thirteen second ahead of second-place Princeton.
The Tigers will return to Lake Carnegie for their final home race of the year beginning at 10 a.m. against Brown.
Conditions: calm, sunshine, and a pleasant 60+ degrees. The early races enjoyed a tailwind, shifting to head midway in the regatta. Races reported in reverse order.
