Friebe Named ECAC Player of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. - The honors keep rolling in for the Princeton field hockey team. Junior Ilvy Friebe (Bonn, Germany) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Field Hockey Player of the Year, and was joined on the first-team All-ECAC by classmate Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Claire Miller (Scarsdale, N.Y.).
Friebe, already selected as the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year and a first-team All-America, finished the season with 72 points (30 goals, 12 assists). She led the nation in points, points per game, goals and goals per game throughout the season and also finished in a tie for 12th in assists, and thirteenth in the standings in assists per game (0.600). Friebe broke the Ivy League record for the most points scored in a season, broke both the Ivy and Princeton records for goals scores in a season, and broke the conference record for the most goals scored in a game with four.
Townsend, a first-team All-Ivy and Mid-Atlantic Regional All-America selection, was the only returning starter in the Tigers' defensive corp and has been its leader all season. She finished the season second on the team in scoring with 26 points (11g, 4a) and was one of three Princeton players to be unanimously selected to the first-team All-Ivy. Townsend was also named a first-team All-America.
Miller finished fourth on the team in scoring with 21 points (3g, 15a). A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection and a third-team All-America, Miller is finished in a tie for third in the nation in assists and is second in the country in assists per game (0.750).
Princeton's season came to a close when it fell to eventual national champion, Michigan, 4-2 in the NCAA Final Four. The Tigers finished the season at 17-3.
